Stranded!

x-posted on account of me being very lazy.

I sure had an interesting weekend. Collette and I definitly learned a lesson in being prepared.

We droveout 12 hours or so to the tiny town of Grand Forks Bc to visit my grandmother for thanksgiving weekend. The drive there was fine, minus us getting lost in Satan's town (calgary) a few times. We spent the evening with grandma and the next day exploring the town. Despite how small it is, it definitly has some wonderful little gift shops; i found some wonderful stones including a massive piece of Kyonite bigger than my fist for a whopping 25 dollars which, anywhere else, would have been at least twice as much. I was quite impressed.

We spent the next day in Nakusp which took us about 2 hours or so to get there. It's a beautiful town! The mountains open up to expose a huge lake with Nakusp situated right on the shoreline. The view is breathtaking. We ate lunch with Collette's friend Chelsea and then did a bit of shopping. We tried to hunt down Joe Tomato, but he wasn't at work, or home, or answering his cellphone. But, at least we tried.

The drive home was the next morning, and this is where the issues started (of course, lol). We set off before 6am and by the time it hit 7ish my car decided to be an asshole and start smoking. Collette pulled over and to our dismay the car would not start. What was worse was that the hazzard lights shut of (Now, wtf is that about? those are supposed to be the one things that will at least work if the car dies, haha).

Anyway, by the time this happened we were 8km away from the town of Castlegar. On the side of a mountain. On the side of the road. With no cell phone reception.

We had to walk.

Collette thought i was going to go into a diabetic coma and die, and in retrospect it might be smart of me on future adventures to pack something sweet in my purse (whoops) luckily we had a huge tupperware container of grandma's wonderful home cooking which was supposed to go to Collette's dad (Sorry Mr Lamoureux!). i am soooo very lucky I took grandma's advice and packed winter supplies. I had a coat, a few pairs of gloves and earmuffs in my trunk. So, Collette and I bundled up, locked everything up, grabbed our puses and baking, and started to walk. We learned that walking down a mountain is actually way more of an asshole than walking up, and that the dude who runs the RV place outside castlegar is a twit. We saw a nice promising sign not far away from the car that said 'first right, slow down now'. We figured that ment that the rv park was nearby. No, no.

So throughout all this we had been trying to contact someone, and i guess grandma having heard my voice over the crackling phone had reasoned that we were either in or outside castlegar, and sent my uncle who found us walking after about an hour or so.

He drove us into town and I called AMA (Don't even get me started on the conversation I had with that amazingly stupid woman) and soon we had a tow truck on the way.

Collette and I were tired as we were past halfway there...I think Korby said we had walked a little under 4km actually. Her and I both had to call in for work on Monday and go home with Korby and Sherri and Billy the following day.

Anyway, that was the weekend's adventure. I'm completely exhausted. It was sooo amazing to get home, unpack, have a delicious slice of pumpkin pie and just sit in the tub and relax. My calfs are killing me and I'm completely exhausted. But, could have been worse, right? We got out ok, and we at least weren't in the middle of no where. It really ticked me off that of the 30 or so people who drove by, no one bothered to stop and help. I shudder to think what would have happened had my blood sugar dropped...probably would have killed me.

Anyway, my entire engine needs to be replaced which i'm not sure i can afford with tuition and school (I got my letter for winter regristration yesterday, yay!). I'm annoyed that I've put well over 500 dollars on top of what i paid for the car just in repairs and other things, and now I have to get rid of a vehical I've had for only a month, and that i'll be paying for for the next year.

Buuut, thems the breaks, right? I'll see how much an engine will cost, and then have a chat with the mechanic who I paid almost 100 dollars to to check over my car for me.

Anyway, besides the last day the weekend was quite fun. Back to the grind tomorrow though. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

I'm so sorry that I wasn't available when you came into Nakusp!

Fucking vehicles are satan. They break down so much! Vehicles are the new computers - they cost a lot and constantly break down.

Aww... Well, at least your story had some happy moments.
